16th SNIP Conference - Manhattan Beach, CA - April 13 – 17, 2010

Young Investigator Travel Awards

Mission: To promote interest in the field of neuroimmune pharmacology and to recognize the work being done by young investigators in this area, SNIP will sponsor Young Investigator Travel Awards (YITA) for those attending the 16th SNIP Conference.

Purpose: The purpose of these awards is to provide financial support to undergraduate and graduate students as well as postdoctoral fellows presenting their research. Awardees will receive a monetary award to cover travel expense and receive free registration.

Guidelines

To be eligible for a travel award the applicant must be:

  • The presenting author on an abstract accepted for delivery at the SNIP annual meeting and must attend the opening SNIP Meeting Poster Session
  • Working with a member of SNIP, who serves as a mentor or collaborator on the project.
  • No more than two awards will be awarded per PI’s laboratory.
  • Trainees who received a full travel award within the past five years will not be eligible for a full travel award, but may be awarded a registration waiver and/or recognition of scientific excellence.

And be either:

  • A full time student in a graduate program (M.S., M.PH., Ph.D. or M.D. degree)
  • A full-time participant in a medical residency or medical fellowship program
  • A full-time post-doctoral fellow within five years of receiving the doctoral degree (Ph.D.), or within two years of completing residency training (M.D.)

Apply for a Travel Award

Submit your abstract online by December 4, 2009 (http://www.s-nip.org/confupcoming.cfm) and follow the directions to indicate your training status and that you are applying for a Young Investigator Travel Award. During the abstract submission you will be asked to email a short curriculum vitae or biosketch. You should therefore have your CV or biosketch ready to submit online in PDF format.

Award Funding

Travel awards will be provided in the form of reimbursements after recipients attend the meeting and present their poster. Persons selected for travel awards will be notified in advance of the meeting, as soon as the selection process is complete. Since the travel award includes a registration waiver for the 2010 Conference, applicants should wait until awards have been announced before officially registering for the meeting. If you do not hear from SNIP prior to the registration deadline, please check with Dr. Gayle Baldwin at: gbaldwin@mednet.ucla.edu

Young Investigators Symposium

The top pre-doctoral and post-doctoral abstracts will be selected for 10-15 minute oral presentations at the Young Investigator Mini-Symposium, which will be held on Friday, April 16, 2010, as part of the annual SNIP Scientific Conference.
